Hebrew Chavurot

HC Request Form

Hebrew Chavurot (HC) is our innovative Hebrew program for children in 3rd through 6th grade. It works best as a supplement to what your child is learning in Living a Jewish Life or Crossing the River. In Hebrew Chavurot, your child will be in a group of no more than 5 students which means more individual learning! Building on basic reading skills acquired in Living a Jewish Life, this program takes each child as his/her own rate through the prayers and songs for Shabbat morning services. The prayers learned in Hebrew Chavurot will be reiterated both in Living and Jewish Life and Crossing the River to ensure complete understanding of vocabulary, liturgical and spiritual meaning of the prayers.

This 4-year Hebrew and prayer program focuses on teaching our children to read and write Hebrew and develop a love for this language that can be used in spiritual prayer as well as a modern day language.

Rather than meeting in a sterile classroom, classes are held at one, or all of the students’ homes in small intimate groups. This design allows for personal attention from the teacher, less intimidating settings, and an environment where strong bonds can be created.

In Living a Jewish Life your child will learn Hebrew basics. In Hebrew Chavurot, we take our Hebrew studies a giant step further. We teach our students how to read and have a comprehensive prayer curriculum they follow over the four years. If your child starts Hebrew Chavurot in 3rd grade and continues until 6th he or she will come out with a deep understanding of 18 – 20 prayers that he or she will very likely lead when it’s time to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. This will greatly reduce the amount of time (and money) spent with a tutor when preparing to become B’nai Mitzvah.
