Tikkun Olam Sparks: Anti-Racism event

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 14 Sivan 5781

7:00 PM - 8:15 PMZoom

In January we held the first offering in a series of community-wide reflection and education programs as on-ramps to personal and collective social action. That session looked at racism in predominantly white Jewish communities. On May 25, we’ll take a look at white privilege: the origin of the phrase, its many aspects, and how it is part of our own lives.

In this conversation, we’ll discuss a 20-minute Ted Talk by Peggy McIntosh, inventrix of the phrase ‘white privilege. Please watch the 20 minute-video before coming.

Some of our conversations will be in the whole group, some in breakout rooms. Mindful that for people of color, listening to white people waking up to new understandings about racism can range from uncomfortable to wounding, we’ll set up the option of a breakout room specifically for people of color.

If you’re a person of color who wants to think this through, please contact Debbie Zucker at dzucker3@gmail.com.

The Tikkun Olam Sparks are Reggie Gray, Susan Berman, Howard Branz, Ellen Brock, Sue Chase, Avi Edwards, Mary Fulton, Jo Graybill, Diana Livinenko, Elizabeth Otto, Bruce Patch, Wendy Rochman, Jenny Schiff, Ruth Seagull, Jeff Skovron,  Jay Stein, Debbie Zucker.

Please contact Reggie (rbginboulder@comcast.net) to join this growing group of NK members working to ignite flames of justice and promote peace in our world.
