Simchat Torah Service for All

Saturday, October 10, 2020 22 Tishrei 5781

6:45 PM - 8:45 PM

Why is this night different from all other nights?

Usually we celebrate Simchat Torah in rowdy, renewal style, honoring the completion of the yearly cycle of reading the Torah and preparing to begin it afresh. Usually we gather for a night of music, dancing, celebration, our annual Torah-Oracle ritual—and candied apples!

This year, for our pandemic Simchat Torah, we will begin our beautiful virtual celebration by reaching out to our younger children with story, teaching and song. We will celebrate Havdalah together, and then, honor the Torah and each other in a contemplative service, using color, movement, music, story and contemplation, led by members of our community.  We won’t be dancing with our scrolls, but our celebration will still offer a profound reminder of the living importance of Torah  in our heritage.  Following this, we read the final passages of the Torah, rescroll, and read from the beginning as the Creation story unfolds anew.  Finally, as always, we will celebrate one of the foundational traditions of Nevei Kodesh:  our Torah Oracle!

Please be sure to have pen and paper available.

Join us this year to experience the prophecy!
