Teen HH Programming Descriptions
Rosh Hashana, day one: 10:30am - 12pm
Some say that we could read this day as: rosh ha shaneh – change your head! It is a day to look at our patterns of what does and does not work in our lives. This is an important part of the process of teshuvah – of returning to Source. We will look at some short texts, and experience good conversation, to prepare us for 5780. Come with questions, dreams, hopes, and whatever is in your heart.
Yom Kippur: 10am - 11:30am
Yeah, we all heard it: post bar and bat mitzvah, we are supposed to be karmically responsible for ourselves. Yet, where is the blueprint? What does this mean? What does it mean to scapegoat? How do we take responsibility for ourselves and the decisions we make?
Torah shares clues as to the process of repair. Together we will explore through biblio-drama and conversation. Please come prepared to be authentic!

Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi believed deeply that each of us have the capacity to communicate directly with God, yet often we are at a loss as to where to begin. What better place to begin our collective search than with our age-old prayers, the psalms (tehillim) of the Hebrew Bible?* This lunchtime brown bag series will explore four different psalms as a way into both a deeper understanding of the Jewish traditional texts and a deeper appreciation of our own souls’ yearnings. Over the centuries, the redactors of our prayer books (siddurim) have chosen particular psalms as part of the standardized liturgy, and Jewish Renewal has highlighted and elevated others through chants and songs. And yet there is so much more to uncover! We will begin our exploration this fall with Psalm 81, the psalm sung in Jerusalem by the Levites on Thursdays. In the next two sessions, we will turn our attention to Psalm 40 – a relatively unknown psalm – and Psalm 23 – a classic psalm of comfort. At our fourth meeting, we will discuss Psalm 30, traditionally associated with Chanuka, and also often recited as part of the morning liturgy. Ideally, we will come to build a sense of community through our sustained exploration of different psalms together over time. I also pray that our engagement with a variety of psalms will offer you a window into the tremendous richness to be found in these traditional texts of prayer. *No Hebrew is required. The texts will be provided both in Hebrew and in traditional and alternative English translations, including those of Rebbe Zalman himself. -

In this two-part series, Rav Bracha will introduce some of the key rabbinic midrashim conceptualizing Torah and its relationship to the world. We will study primary sources together in hevruta (sacred study partnership) as well as discussing them as a class. All sources will be provided with English translations. No prior text experience necessary; please bring a pen.
