Jessi Roemer is Hazzan, writer, and composer of Jewish music. She grew up in Silver Spring, MD (Algonquin land), learning Yiddish, Hebrew, and Ladino music and prayers from her mother, Cantor Sue Roemer z”l. Jessi’s original compositions have received awards from Hazon Shmita Art Competition and Shalshelet Festival for new Jewish Liturgical Music. Jessi has produced several original music videos and is a 2022 Fellow of the Hadar Rising Song Institute. Her Jewish World Music ensemble, EZUZ, sets ancient texts to a fusion of Middle Eastern, North American, European, and South American sounds. Her latest solo project, PRAISE, is a new Jewish collection of original melodies designed for communal singing. Jessi serves as Hazzan of Society Hill Synagogue in Philadelphia (Lenape land), where she lives with her beloved partner Josh and two beloved children, Hanna and Nati.
