Yom Kippur is the most solemn and introspective day on the Jewish calendar—and a day when the gates to the Divine are wide open and our prayers have more power.

During the Torah Service, led by Ba'alat Tefillah Michelle Wolf and friends, we’ll hear passages from Parashat Nitzavim, in which we are all called—once again—to stand before God in covenant: to take our places within sacred community. Everyone will have the chance to come up to the Torah through our practice of group aliyot (gratitude to Reb Zalman, z’’l, for this minhag).

The Torah service will be immediately followed by a Yizkor service led by Rabbi Diane Tiferet Lakein with guests. We will include in our thoughts and prayers those whose souls have moved beyond this material realm, yet continue to guide and inspire our community and our choices.

The Musaf service follows, led by Ba'alat Tefillah Michelle Wolf, with Rebbetzin Eve Ilsen chanting Unetane Tokef, the ancient poem reflecting on the preciousness of life. We will have opportunities for private prayer (Amidah) and exploring how we’ve missed the mark in our relationships to self, other, Earth and God (Vidui). Through a full prostration, we will embrace the beauty and awe of this Yom Kippur day, practicing humility and acceptance of our role in co-creation with the Divine (Aleinu).
