Enter Shabbat with guest prayer leader, vocalist, recording artist, and multi instrumentalist Laura Rachel Wolfe. www.laurawolfe.com. A musician and prayer leader with Romemu Synagogue in New York City since 2011, Laura Rachel brings ruach and soul to any service.  She will lead us virtually in a renewal style Kabbalat Shabbat service; with contemporary shabbat melodies, chanting, and silent meditative prayer.

Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, singing teacher and recording artist Laura Rachel Wolfe has been singing and making music all her life. Born to a family of professional musicians and academic activists she began her professional career at age five on the stage of Lake George Opera. She attended LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts, and Oberlin College for vocal and original performance, and landed her first professional tour with the Broadway Road Production of the musical “Hair.” Making a name for herself as a singer/songwriter Laura independently released SIREN, produced with Grammy award winner Steve Addabbo (Suzanne Vega, Toshi Reagan, Shawn Colvin), which made the finals of NPR’s All Songs Considered and was supported by College Radio Airplay on over 200 stations and 4 continents.

Following her calling to sing sacred music, Laura appeared at Carnegie Hall with Lavender Light Gospel Choir and soloed on their full length release “Light in the House”. After a 15 year chanting and meditation practice, Laura began offering kirtan (sanskrit for chant the name) at yoga studios, centers, retreats and festivals with such western kirtan notables as WAH, Dave Stringer, Ananda Rasa, and Kirtan Rabbi.  In 2012 she independently released MANTRA, which highlights her gifts as a violinist, harmonium player and vocalist. In 2011 after singing the sacred music of many traditions she came home to the tradition of her Yiddishkeit ancestors and was hired as a prayer leader and instrumentalist at Romemu Renewal Synagogue on New York’s Upper West Side.  She has been leading Shabbat and High Holiday services with Romemu for the past 10 years, and completed ALEPH’s DLTI (Devvenen' Leadership Training Institute) in 2015.
