Simchat Torah Celebration

Monday, October 17, 2022 22 Tishrei 5783

6:30 PM - 8:30 PMNevei Kodesh

We look forward to celebrating Simchat Torah - which can be translated as “Rejoicing with Torah” - in the Nevei Kodesh sanctuary with music, dance, 'oracle' readings, and more! Please join us (for the first time in-person since 2019)!

This will be an opportunity for the community to come together and hear the final verses of D'varim (Deuteronomy) and the beginning verses of B'reishit (Genesis) chanted from our Torahs (the new and the old). This year we are honored to have Ruth Seagull as our Kallat Torah and Ba'alat Tefillah Michelle Wolf as our Kallat Bereishit.

Prior to the Torah readings, we will circle the sanctuary with our Torahs seven times - each Hakafah (circling), will be in honor of one of the manifested energy centers of the Tree of Life (Chesed, G'vurah, Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod, Malchut). One of our community members and leaders will offer a short teaching before each Hakafah after which we will dance to the music of a newly created Klezmer band under the leadership of Sheldon Sands.

Musicians in the band: Cara Wilson, Garrett Model, Howard Branz, Susan Berman, Ed Secor, Linda Flinkman and Sheldon Sands.

And, if that wasn't enough, stick around for a personalized Torah 'oracle' offered by one of our many spiritual guides in the community! (Reb Patrice Spitz will be on Zoom to offer 'oracle' readings to members on Zoom!)

Co-led by Hazzan Shayndel Adler and Rabbi Diane Tiferet Lakein, alongside of our Shomrei Ruach Committe chair, Ziva Moyal, and many knowledgeable and gifted lay leaders, we pray this will be an evening when Torah will come alive in our hearts and nourish our community in the year to come!
